Synopsis:

Julian used to be a ghost and now he can't stop seeing them.

Ever since being sacrificed as part of a forbidden ritual, Julian has been able to see and communicate with the spirits of passed brujx. And that would be okay, if it allowed him to be part of his new boyfriend's community. But Julian’s also seeing other things: shadows in the corner of his eyes, glowing eyes in the dark, and “dark spots” on people – gaping, black gashes that are somehow wrong. He did ask his new magical boyfriend about it, but Yadriel has never heard of anything like it either, and he’s so busy with his new Brujx responsibilities, trying to figure out where all the new malingos are coming from, that Julian hates for his problems to ruin what little time together they have.

Then, a strange new brujx shows up. Ángel, as a nonbinary brujx, can heal the living and release the dead, but more than that, they can also see the same dark spots as Julian. Despite Yadriel’s reservations, Julian eagerly accepts their help. But, Ángel’s ruthless methods feel wrong to Julian, who wants to move away from hurting others.

With the shadows growing darker, and the discovery of a gaping dark spot on his friend Luca, Julian has to decide who he wants to put his trust in, and just how far he’s willing to go to save what is his.

She must marry the prince of death.
And she's been ordered to kill him.

Yildiz serves as the Southern princess’s bodyguard, but when the princess vanishes, she’s forced to take her place. Disguised as the royal bride, Yildiz enters the enemy palace, betrothed to the Northern prince.

Dayyan is known by all as the ruthless Northern executioner. He’s compelled to serve the shah or else risk harm befalling his family. When he takes the Southern princess as his bride, her fierce spirit and unwavering resilience begin to chip away at the solid walls he’s built around himself.

If Yildiz’s identity is exposed or she fails to eliminate the Northern heirs as instructed by her sultan, it means certain death. If Dayyan succumbs to his growing feelings for his new wife, it will be another weakness that can be wielded against him.

In a land ravaged by war, Yildiz and Dayyan are bound in a union that will forever change the destiny of the Khatatian Desert. A marriage meant to secure peace becomes something more than a mere obligation, and they have the impossible task of choosing between their duty and their hearts.

Perfect for fans of 'The Shadows Between Us' and 'Powerless,' this high stakes romantasy follows a vengeful teen who cons her way into an elite society of tyrannical witches. But her warring feelings for two people--an enemy prince and her childhood friend--could ruin everything.

Caya was once the ward of Coventry’s royal family…until they were killed by the three witch Houses that now rule the peninsula.

Now eighteen, Caya plans to infiltrate the witches' glittering world to enact justice. With the help of a mysterious benefactor, she adopts the persona of Marisol Vinyet, a disarmingly beautiful aristocrat. As Marisol, she'll attend the annual Coronet, a cutthroat social season during which witches increase their power by binding new members to their Houses. The Coronet will draw even the prince of neighboring Domingo—Tomás Castellan—to the peninsula just in time for “Marisol” to kill him. After all, his family set the witches upon Coventry in the first place.

But Tomás is more charming than Caya ever anticipated. Worse, her estranged childhood friend, Bas Arroyo, is the prince’s protector, and she struggles to control her complicated feelings for him.

To take down the witches from within, Caya will have to keep both her identity and her desperate heart under Although she’s made herself a weapon, she might be the one to bleed.

Synopsis:

A young woman bargains with a demon to save her brothers, only to lose her heart in this slow-burn romantasy about dark magic, unlikely love, and the imperfect beauty of mortality.

The penniless in Blackbridge have only two choices: Sell the body or sell the soul. And thanks to Eda Shaw, business is booming.

Indentured to a capricious demon known as Mr. Night, Eda and her brothers arrange illicit Pacts on his behalf, luring the city's most desperate into trading years of their lives for their deepest desires. When a Pact goes awry and her brothers are arrested, Eda realizes she’ll need an infernal ally of her own: Kit'rath, an infuriating demon with a curious penchant for humanity and the only being in Blackbridge that Mr. Night seems to fear. As they race to rescue her family and save the city from ruin, an undeniable connection sparks between mortal and demon.

But Kit's help doesn’t come cheap. Now Eda risks losing her heart to the one who claims her years—and saving herself may prove the steepest cost of all.

Rich with gothic atmosphere, sharp wit, and simmering romantic tension, 'Reap & Sow' is a fantasy debut perfect for fans of Rachel Gillig, Hannah Whitten, and Heather Fawcett.

r e v i e w

'Reap & Sow' by Charlotte B. Plumb follows Eda Shaw, a young woman who along with her brothers, has spent decades indebted to a demon through no fault of their own arranging Pacts on his behalf. Having spent decades luring others to further suffering by convincing them to trade years of their lives to make their wishes come true, she suddenly finds herself responsible for causing her brothers to end up in a deadly predicament with no way to save them other than to make a Pact of her own.

For reasons beyond her control, bartering with Mr. Night.. the demon she knows is not an option.. and that leads her on a wild trip through the city, fleeing armed zealots and powerful authority figures.. into the underbelly of a local crime boss in search of another.

When she finds Kit'rath, he's nothing like she expected. Well.. almost nothing. Despite the glimpses of demonic tells, he's largely fraught with humanity. Getting him to bargain with her at all is no easy task and it takes a steep cost to tempt him into it, but they both have a lot to lose.

Both demons are physically beautiful of course, Mr. Night is wickedly seductive in his ways, always knowing just the right thing to say to prompt others into doing what he wants them to while letting them think it's their own idea. As expected, his Pacts often have unforeseen results, leaving desperate people in even worse situations.

Kit'rath however is both beautiful and outwardly surly. If he isn't downright annoyed, he's at least sarcastic, but that's paired with a kind of pleasantly debauched flirtiness that I couldn't get enough of. There were so many times I caught myself smiling at him as I read.. and when he pulls out a touch of earnesty I'm afraid I'd be loathe to deny him much of anything.

The magic system, particularly for communicating with the demons, was intriguing and added to the gorgeous gothic vibe of the book. I loved the take on demons and the monotheistic deity, it was a unique surprise and honestly I can't believe I haven't seen it done before.

I enjoyed the tense moments and action sequences, both of which were far too much for my heart at times, as I was deeply invested in Eda and Kit. The villains were unpleasant and easy to dislike, and though their plots weren't overly complicated, the solutions were still challenging.

Tripp was a wonderful surprise of a supporting character, in a book full of them. Verbally, he definitely had a bit of a Gollum vibe, but he was so funny.

Plumb broke my heart a little, then put it back together, only to leave the most dreadfully ominous paragraph at the end.. that I don't know what I'll do if there isn't a second book. But I also don't know what I'll do if there is.

Nonetheless, you should all go read this book if you like a romantasy that's just sweet enough. I promise there will be moments you will be overcome with feeling. It's a quick easy read that you won't want to put down.
