Thistlemarsh
Moorea Corrigan Publisher: Berkley Publishing Group / Berkley Pub Date: Apr. 21, 2026 Genre: Fantasy Synopsis: 'Howl's Moving Castle' meets Emily Wilde's 'Encyclopaedia of Faeries' in Moorea Corrigan's epic fantasy debut, 'Thistlemarsh.' This genre-blending novel feels like a classic faerie-tale for grown-ups: whimsical fun, and exciting, but also rife with dark twists and harrowing secrets. Set in England in the aftermath of WWI, the novel follows a plucky heroine tasked with restoring a crumbling estate—think Downton Abbey, but in ruins. She has one month to complete the job, or else she will lose the manor to her reviled cousin. It’s a seemingly impossible undertaking—until a Faerie appears with a loaded proposition. Corrigan’s debut has something for every reader: gorgeously written prose; accessible world building; likeable, relatable, nuanced characters; and a surprising love story. It calls to mind the wonder and delight found within the pages of Lewis Caroll’s Through the Looking-Glass. Weaving actual history with faerie folklore, THISTLEMARSH is the kind of book that will make you feel like you’re discovering magic for the first time. In THISTLEMARSH, Mouse Dunne once dreamed of studying Faeries at university. But instead, her world became a decidedly unmagical place. The Great War led her to pursue a career as a nurse, and with one telegram, the rest of her universe shattered: at the Battle of the Somme, her beloved cousin was killed, and her brother was left with debilitating shell shock. It was time to put aside childish dreams. Now, the war has ended, and Mouse receives news that her late uncle has left her Thistlemarsh Hall, the once-resplendent manor in the English countryside where she and her brother grew up. If Mouse does not rehabilitate the decaying old house in one month’s time, she will forfeit her inheritance, along with the means to care for her brother. It quickly becomes clear that it’s impossible to repair the manor in the allotted time, until a mysterious Faerie appears, looking to strike a deal. He offers to restore Thistlemarsh...for a price. Faeries have not been seen in England in one hundred years, but one warning remains certain: never trust the fae. Mouse knows better than most that making a bargain with a Faerie is a bad idea—especially with a Faerie so insufferably handsome and arrogant—but with time running out, she throws caution to the wind. And so, the tale unravels….
