Betwixt The Sheets

Your Friendly Neighborhood Inkslinger

I've worked as a professional journalist for several years and have an innate love of great storytelling. I have high expectations, not only for a writer's ability to weave an interesting tale with some sense of eloquence, but also for a writer's capacity for truly understanding the characters they create.

I'm critical, but I reward a writer's ability to fulfill my requirements, with a long term commitment to the worlds they share with me.

Past and Present

I have an extensive background in the media and entertainment industry, but this project is about getting back to something I love, writing. I've written short stories, many articles specializing in interview and review, and even been a songwriting collaborator over the years.
Throughout recent years, I've found myself surrounded by people who not only say they don't read, they seem proud of it. So, perhaps I'm part of a dying breed, but I don't think so. I do find it more difficult to single out really great quality authors, however. I've read a number of bestsellers that quite frankly, I think kids in my high school classes in the 90's could have written circles around.

Interestingly enough, many bestselling authors also don't seem to want to grow their craft. They're so content in their mediocrity, that while encircling themselves with sycophants, they have absolute rules about anyone saying anything remotely negative around them regarding their work. Who needs constructive criticism, when one can simply stick their head in the sand and tell themselves how great they are?

But enough about me and my general views on the state of the industry. Books and the worlds they take us too are still wonderful to experience. And hopefully, something I share along the way, will be a ticket on a new journey for someone out there reading with me.
